Twitter – How Do You Use Yours? [poll]

You are here: Home » Twitter » Twitter – How Do You Use Yours? [poll]

Recently I’ve come across lots of different articles about Twitter, and how to use it “properly” in order to help get more followers. There are obviously different reasons that people use Twitter, but some of the guidelines being set are actually quite helpful if people take the time to read them. As I touched on during my last Twitter post, it is actually very different from Facebook, and that got me thinking: how do you use your Twitter account?

[poll id="4"]

The point of this poll is a personal vs professional usage comparison. Some people try to use Twitter to constantly post links to their new website, whereas some may use it to constantly update the world about their eating habits – but both techinques would probably result in a very low amount of followers. Is it a case of finding the right balance between personal and professional use that leads to ‘success’ (in terms of followers), or should you just post updates relevant to the audience you want to target? Let’s find out.

Do you have a strategy when using Twitter? Or do you just update with whatever you feel like at the time? Vote on the poll and let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Most people use Twitter to spam in a so-called “friendly” way. I’m not using it much at the moment and I haven’t really got any benefit from it. What could I be doing wrong?

I hate Twitter, stop talking about it. Why must I (micro) blogging at a domain that belongs to another? :)

@Tedel – I agree with the spam aspect, unfortunately it is a large part of Twitter. I think from the recent votes on this poll we can see that using Twitter in a professional manner while staying ‘human’ can be advantageous in getting new followers.

@SEO Singapore – There are a thousand (and more) reasons to use Twitter, but I’m not gonna waste my time listing them all. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it can definitely be a great marketing tool for a business, or simply just a normal website.

I agree that striking a happy medium between personal and professional is key, but it can be very hard to do! You don’t want to end up on tweetingtoohard! You also don’t want to be ignored because people think you’re a spam bot either!
