Yahoo Meme – The New MySpace
You are here: Home » Social Media » Yahoo Meme – The New MySpace
I’ve had an account on Yahoo Meme for roughly a week now, so I thought I’d add my thoughts on what it’s like. At first it seemed quite interesting; “the ability to post images, videos and longer messages, this really could be a rival to Twitter” – right? Wrong. The initial comparisons I’ve read do seem to suggest Meme has been launched as a rival to Twitter, but in fact it is more like MySpace.
I like the interface of Meme, it’s easy to use and rather fast, but that’s where it ends for me. Although still in beta testing, it is plainly obvious that the image and video functionality is just going to be annoying. The “popular” section is just a bunch of random pictures people have “reposted” (which is basically a vote), and the updates by people are far from thoughtful.
The last time I logged in to Meme it was a bit quiet, so I decided to go in today to see if things had changed, only to be greeted by several pictures of the Maldives posted by a so-called “Affiliate Marketing Guide”.
There is one word I would use to describe this new social networking website: tacky. It is most definitely not a rival for Twitter, and I can only see it attracting the same flashing .gif loving crowd that MySpace is home to.
Have you tested out Meme yet? What are your initial thoughts?
